Les Sorciers Perdus: the gravity sessions (No. 2)

Les Sorciers Perdus and friends present the second installment of “the gravity sessions,” featuring an evening of music, sound sculpture, silent film, poetry, and visual art at the Apohadion Theatre at 107 Hanover St., Portland, Maine.  A new monthly series, “the gravity sessions” is focused on interdisciplinary artistic collaborations, and brings together local and national artists.

Featured artists for December 16th include: musician/intermedia artist Duane Ingalls, poet Zanne Langlois, Les Sorciers Perdus (trumpeter Mark Tipton, guitarist Ryan Blotnick, bassist Tyler Heydolph, and drummer Beau Lisy), and visual artist Rush Brown.

The evening will include four sets: 8pm – Les Sorciers Perdus; 9pm – Duane Ingalls; 9:30pm – Zanne Langlois; 10pm – Les Sorciers Perdus & Duane Ingalls.  The final set will include live music with a screening of Man Ray’s 1926 surrealist silent film, EMAK-BAKIA.  Visual artist Rush Brown will be capturing the performance onstage throughout the evening.  Admission is by a suggested donation of $10/person.

Les Sorciers Perdus and friends present the third installment of “the gravity sessions,” featuring an evening of music, dance, poetry, and visual art at the Apohadion Theatre at 107 Hanover St., Portland, Maine.  A recently-launched monthly series, “the gravity sessions” focuses on interdisciplinary artistic collaborations, and brings together local and national artists.

Featured artists for January 19th include: Les Sorciers Perdus (trumpeter Mark Tipton, guitarist Ryan Blotnick, bassist Tyler Heydolph, and drummer Beau Lisy), dancer Shana Bloomstein, poet Lennie Newman, Barbara Truex – mountain dulcimer, Steven Gruverman – clarinet, Gary Chapin – accordion, and Stephen Carpenter – percussion.

Admission is by a suggested donation of $10/person.

WORLD PREMIER: Les Sorciers Perdus & The Phantom Carriage

Victor Sjostrom’s THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE.

 

Les Sorciers Perdus perform Mark’s new score for Victor Sjöström’s 1921 silent masterpiece, “The Phantom Carriage” at The Grand in Ellsworth.  One screening only, so reserve your tickets early!  Dark and moody, this film is based on Körkarlen, a novel by Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöf, and develops a theme found in a Swedish folk legend.  The legend states that the last person to die before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve is cursed to drive Death’s chariot throughout the new year collecting the souls of the departed.  A major influence on Ingmar Bergman, this groundbreaking silent horror/drama film features director Victor Sjöström as the ne’re-do-well David Holm, Hilda Borgström as Anna Holm – his wife, and Astrid Holm as Sister Edit.

Mark’s new score blends contemporary jazz with soundscape and modern classical techniques, spinning a hypnotic web of sound that connects seamlessly with the film. Featuring Mark Tipton on Trumpet & Keyboard, Ryan Blotnick on Guitar, Tyler Heydolph on Bass, and Beau Lisy on Drums & Percussion.

Join us for a screening of one of Hollywood’s most beloved comedies starring one of its most daring comedians, with a fresh new sound! Mark’s score blends jazz, vaudeville effects, and contemporary sounds as it rides along with all 73 minutes of this classic family-friendly romantic comedy from 1923!  Great for kids of all ages!

Les Sorciers Perdus perform Mark’s recent score for F. W. Murnau’s evocative and memorable silent drama, “Sunrise,” at The Grand in Ellsworth.  One screening only, so please reserve your tickets early! This score was premiered at the 2017 Maine International Film Festival in the Waterville Opera House to an appreciative audience.

Mark’s original score blends contemporary and vintage jazz elements, world folk sounds, and avant-garde techniques to portray through music the pathos of this timeless tale of love, spite, and ultimate redemption.

Les Sorciers Perdus perform Mark’s new score for “Robin Hood,” (1922), starring Douglas Fairbanks, at The Grand in Ellsworth.  There is one screening only, so reserve your tickets early!

Mark’s new score uses contemporary jazz, folk and classical styles to portray in music the epic visual scope of this film – one of the highest costing films to produce in the 1920’s, at roughly one million dollars! Considered director Allan Dwan’s masterpiece, and recently restored, Robin Hood has never looked better on the big screen, and with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this film will not disappoint!
