World Premier: Les Sorciers Perdus perform SUNRISE at MIFF

Les Sorciers Perdus perform the World Premier of Mark’s new score for F. W. Murnau’s  “Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans” at the 20th Annual Maine International Film Festival. The festival is produced by Ken Eisen of Railroad Square Cinema, Waterville.

Murnau’s “Sunrise” (1927) is a timeless, lyrical silent film masterpiece, fêted by film directors for nearly a century. Mark’s new score blends jazz, classical, rock, and blues genres as it winds its way through the 90+ minutes of this classic film.

Musicians include: Mark Tipton – trumpet & flugelhorn, Ryan Blotnick – guitar, Tyler Heydolph – bass, and Peter McLaughlin – drums/percussion. (Exact screening time and venue TBA.)

Mark Tipton & Les Sorciers Perdus in Eastport

Mark Tipton & Les Sorciers Perdus will perform original jazz works, including material from their new album, “Alchemist’s Dream” at the Eastport Arts Center. This performance will include the premier of a new jazz composition by Mark.

Mark Tipton Quartet at GLS Folk Fest

This year Mark and his quartet continue their annual tradition of playing at the Grand Lake Stream Folk Art Festival in Grand Lake Stream, Maine.  This event is well worth the drive, and features handcrafted works by notable artisans, as well as a wide range of musical performances over the span of two days.

Tracy McMullen Quintet at BLUE

Les Sorciers Perdus perform NOSFERATU

Kicking off a year-long residency at The Grand in Ellsworth, Mark leads Les Sorciers Perdus in a live performance of his original score for F. W. Murnau’s “Nosferatu” (1922), accompanied by a screening of the film. The projenitor of all vampire films, Murnau’s masterpiece of German Expressionism is loosely based on Bram Stoker’s gothic novel “Dracula” (1897), and will take viewers on a wild ride!

Personnel includes: Mark Tipton – trumpet & keyboard, Ryan Blotnick – guitar, Tyler Heydolph – bass, and R.J. Miller – drums.

(Please note: Mark’s score has been significantly revised and updated since its premier in Portland, Maine in 2010, so this is technically a “World Premier” – !)

Vizutti’s “American Jazz Suite”

Mark performs solo trumpet for Allen Vizutti’s “American Jazz Suite” with the combined Colby College and University of Maine at Farmington Wind Ensembles, directed by Eric Thomas.

Featuring two performances: Thursday, November 2, 2017 & Saturday, November 4, 2017 (Times TBA).
